Description: |
The original structure dates back to the 1870s and was added onto in 1883. In 1991, the newly-formed Byron Area Historical Society chose as its first project the restoration of the depot. The freight room serves as a meeting room and the downstairs area is the Byron Museum. |
| Historic Significance: |
The coming of the railroad in the 1850s and later the construction of the depot probably accounts for the development of the town of Byron. Store buildings were built nearby and much of their merchandise was delivered by mail. Victorian cottages and two-story houses were built along either side of the tracks. |
