Historic Significance:

The Twiggs County Courthouse was first constructed in Marion as a two-story wooden building in 1812.  Almost sixty years later in 1986, the county-seat and courthouse were moved to Jeffersonville.  The structure was destroyed by fire in 1901.  The present Romanesque Revival style courthouse was designed by J.W. Golucke and built between 1902 and 1904.  The National Register listed courthouse underwent renovations in 1979 and another major renovation and expansion from 1996-2003.
