TOOMSBORO

Description / Historic Significance:

Generally, a well-preserved downtown architecture that depicts small town Georgia from the period of the late 19th century and the early 20th century.  Notable buildings include the:

  • Bank/Swampland Opera, c. 1900, a two-story brick structure (pictured above right). 
  • Willet Hotel, c. 1880, two-story, wooden structure with exensive porches. 
  • Central of Georgia Depot, c. 1869, brick passenger and freight depot. 
  • Hall's General Store, possibly antebellum, two-story, wooden structure (pictured above center)
  • Historic residences, the oldest of which are closest to the railroad road tracks, including: Murray Hall House, 1896, two-story wooden house and Carson House, 1800s, one-story originally with a second story addition.

Directions from Nearest City:

From Macon: Take I-16 east toward Savannah.  Take the exit for US 80 and travel east on US 80 for 4.7 miles.  Continue straight ahead on GA Highway 57 for another 32.7 miles. Turn left on GA Highway 112 adn proceed 0.3 mile to downtown Toomsboro.
